Family of Distorted Minds: A True Story

I found this book to be a bit misleading from the very start. The beginning of the back cover reads: "Why had God placed this life in front of me? To start with, the Lord never gives you more than you can handle."  The acknowledgements also clearly state: "This book is a tribute to God." That about sums up the extent to which this book focuses on God, so if you are expecting a memoir with a heart warming, Christ centered ending then you will be disappointed. This is not a book I would expect to find in the religious section of any bookstore. I kept waiting for the author to reveal how the Lord helped her through the trials that were placed before her but she never really explained much in that respect. In that sense I was disappointed.

If  I had began reading this with the understanding that it was an autobiography and detailed account of the life of a woman abused from childhood, I would have had other expectations. It really is an amazing story of survival. The author gives a very detailed account of her life, but the story line does jump around a bit. I often felt like I was reading a Quentin Tarantino film script. Another huge aspect is the anger I could sense coming off the pages. Justifiably, the author's words scream outrage and pain. Towards the end she writes more about reconciling and healing as she moves forward with her life, but very little details are given. It leaves the reader with no sense of completion.

I do understand  that the author has lived through hell on earth and I feel compassion for her. I can't genuinely recommend this book to anyone though. It needs a ton of editing and an actual ending. In full disclosure, I did receive a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
